central asian shepherd puppy

Show line,fighting,working dogs misconception

Misconception is a view or opinion that is incorrect because based on faulty thinking or understanding.

I often get calls or emails from people who are looking to purchase CAS puppy. They ask me if I have show, fighting or working type in a breed.

Dividing one breed in to types like that is wrong. If someone breed dogs to participate in beauty shows but nothing else ,for generations,it is a degradation, same with breeding for fighting, therapy work only, be a nanny for human babies etc. Central Asian shepherd is WORKING group dog breed, so its not intended to be a decoration. It is not a fighting dog either. It is guardian dog,who can guard your farm, flock, family home.If you want to participate in Dog Shows or Agility, why not.But it is not a creation process of new breed. Below is a wonderful article about show and working dogs.Pictures of discussed breed is on top of the post

100 Years of Breed “Improvement” by Caen Elegans

For the sake of honest disclosure, I will admit to owning “purebreds” (the ‘pureness’ of purebreeds is a discussion for another time) but I also have mutts. All the dogs I’ve had since childhood had a few things in common, they were friendly, prey driven, ball-crazy, intense, motivated, athletic (crazy dogs are easier to train) and none had intentionally bred defects. I would never buy/adopt a dog whose breed characteristics exacted a health burden.(Asher 2009). That just incentivizes people to breed more of these intentionally unhealthy animals. The dogs on the left are from  the 1915 book, ‘Breeds of All Nations‘ by W.E. Mason. The examples on the right are modern examples from multiple sources. To be able to make an honest comparison, I’ve chosen pictures with similar poses and in a couple of cases flipped the picture to get them both aligned in the same direction. I had to skip some breeds I wanted to include because of the lack of detail in the older photographs.

It seems incredible that at one time the Bull Terrier was a handsome, athletic dog. Somewhere along its journey to a mutated skull and thick abdomen the bull terrier also picked up a number of other maladies like supernumerary teeth and compulsive tail-chasing.

The Basset Hound has gotten lower, has suffered changes to its rear leg structure, has excessive skin, vertebra problems, droopy eyes prone to entropion and ectropion and excessively large ears.

A shorter face means a host of problems. The modern Boxer not only has a shorter face but the muzzle is slightly upturned. The boxer – like all bracecyphalic dogs – has difficulty controlling its temperature in hot weather, the inability to shed heat places limits on physical performance. It also has one of the highest cancer rates.

The English bulldog has come to symbolize all that is wrong with the dog fancy and not without good reason; they suffer from almost every possible disease. A 2004 survey by the Kennel Club found that they die at the median age of 6.25 years (n=180). There really is no such thing as a healthy bulldog. The bulldog’s monstrous proportions make them virtually incapable of mating or birthing without medical intervention.

The Dachshund used to have functional legs and necks that made sense for their size. Backs and necks have gotten longer, chest jutted forward and legs have shrunk to such proportions that there is barely any clearance between the chest and floor. The dachschund has the highest risk of any breed for intervertebral disc disease which can result in paralysis; they are also prone to achondroplastic related pathologies, PRA and problems with their legs.

The German Shepherd Dog is also a breed that is routinely mentioned when people talk about ruined breeds; maybe because they used to be awesome. In Dogs of All Nations, the GSD is described as a medium-sized dog (25 kg /55 lb), this is a far cry from the angulated, barrel-chested, sloping back, ataxic, 85-pounders  (38 kg) we are used to seeing in the conformation ring. There was a time when the GSD could clear a 2.5 meter (8.5 ft) wall; that time is long gone.

The Pug is another extreme brachycephalic breed and it has all the problems associated with that trait – high blood pressure, heart problems, low oxygenation, difficulty breathing, tendency to overheat, dentition problems, and skin fold dermatitis. The highly desirable double-curl tail is actually a genetic defect, in more serious forms it leads to paralysis.

Once a noble working dog, the modern St. Bernard has been oversized, had its faced squished in, and bred for abundant skin. You will not see this type of dog working, they can’t handle it as they quickly overheat. The diseases include entropion, ectropion, Stockard’s paralysis, hemophilia, osteosarcoma, aphakia, fibrinogen deficiency.

It is unrealistic to expect any population to be free of genetic diseases but show breeders have intentionally selected for traits which result in diseases. Conformation breeders claim they are improving the breed and yet they are often the cause of these problems. If “improvement” in looks imposes a health burden then it is not a breed improvement..

No dog breed has ever been improved by the capricious and arbitrary decision that a shorter/longer/flatter/bigger/smaller/curlier “whatever” is better.  Condemning a dog to a lifetime of suffering for the sake of looks is not an improvement; it is torture.

Central asian shepherd alabai is great dog for hiking

Do you like hiking and thinking about getting dog who can be your hiking buddy?

Who is this person you can always count on to go for a hike whenever you feel like it? it’s not a person. It’s man’s best friend: the dog. A fit, happy, healthy dog will likely be more excited to hit the trail . Most dog breeds will enjoy a hike in the woods, but some dogs have back country survival in their pedigree. If you’re a hiker, you need to choose a dog that will be comfortable in the forest , at snow path, and on mountain trails. You’ll need a dog with good recall (comes when called) so it won’t go chasing madly off after a critter or a deer, or worse, a bear. Your dog needs to be strong and have powerful endurance. Central asian shepherd alabai is great dog for hiking. They do great with a variety of temperature from minus to over 100 F. they will protect you if someone want to harm you(animal or human) while you re hiking or staying in a tent or cabin.

Here pictures and videos from our latest trip to Upper Peninsula  Michigan, Ontonagon area.We visited Porcupine mountain state park, trails and lake Superior shore,Ottawa national forest and run some trails in woods.

This vacation  August 2017 we took our 2 central asian shepherds Alsu and Safar with us, we drove 10 hours by car and they just slept all way in back seat of our truck. They re perfect companions for hikes in woods, for walks at rocky shore of lake Superior, or they even followed us behind four wheeler . 90% they stayed without leash and not escaping .

They always alerted us if someone appeared far away at beach and let us know we re not alone at trail at Norwich bluff

They can wear doggy backpack (we put water and snacks)

They will be around you:they will swim with you in lake  or  will explore waterfalls

They will follow shoreline while you re kayaking-canoeing.

Central asian ovcharka is the perfect breed for people who like to hike and stay outdoors.

They also have a unique coat which get clean itself even after going at the muddiest trails.

When we rode our four-wheeler they run after it,temp were in high 80.Each time we stop, dog went to shade and were relaxing until we start moving..

Central asian shepherd learned to save energy for 5000 year of their existence.they will not bounce around or run in circles.

They will not run after your fourwheeler until they overheat or exhausted, they will let you know that it's time to slow down

With central Asian shepherd alabai I always feel safe hiking alone in woods .

Instincts telling her that she need to do it,like her ancestors did thousands years ago and even now in areas where central asian ovcharkas are habitats..

Holes for nesting puppiesare made by the females of the Central Asian Shepherd in natural conditions. The entrance to the hole is usually located in the shade, next to some kind of shelter (stone, wall, under building). The dimensions of the hole with the nest chamber, built in a very firm ground, can be shocking- it can accommodate an adult man without much inconvenience

Message to a Future central asian shepherd puppy owner

Central asian shepherd alabai puppies are truly cute, but they  require a lot of work and training.  Fluffy puppies grow up and if not trained and socialized  early and properly they will not develop into good companions and guardians.  When,we,Guardian dog kennel  place a puppy into your home we guarantee that it's temperament is sound. We will socialize puppy from early age and evaluate temperament for each.  When you bring your central asian ovcharka puppy to your  home you  are in charge of whether or not that temperament will stay sound.  Training for Alabai puppy begins the minute their eyes  an dears are open and ends the day they take their last breath! Please, remember this and take it into account before you commit to buying a Central asian shepherd puppy or any puppy!

I do  realize that sometimes due to unexpected  circumstances some families can no longer keep their dog. I`m  here to help. I can help with training and socializing, please ask me about options to train your puppy before it goes to you. I NEVER want any of dogs brought from our Kennel , going into a shelter or sold to someone else!  Nor do I want them just given away unless we approve  the new  home.  We will  take back any Central asian shepherd dog that we sell or help the owners to find a new home.

Here are some IMPORTANT things to take into consideration before buying a central asian shepherd puppy:

1)Our Central asian shepherd are half kennel half  house dogs .We bring them to our house on daily basis to communicate with us .We also spent time with them outside. We take them for a walks.we require our puppies to be a family pets (keeping the dog in a garage, chained , crate in barn, does not count).

2)If you work full time please don't contact me for a puppy unless you have a  Serious PLAN as to what you will do with your Central asian ovcharka puppy during the day.  Young pups cannot stay home all alone during a work day.   Please don't tell us that your previous dogs did this and were fine.  I am as certified dog trainer,  know that it`s NOT  fine and  we will not sell an alabai puppy into a home that is going to leave it unattended or locked in a room or crate for the day.  This is cruel! This is not fair.  Dogs are social animals and require human contact on daily basis.  Your  central asian shepherd puppy will not develop well if left alone for extended periods of time. Please, Look into a puppy day care program or hire a private sitter-dog walker to come into your home and have that in place BEFORE you contact us!  Yes I know this add an expense to having the dog but if you are unwilling to do this, then DON'T buy a dog or any animal that requires human contact for that matter.

3)If you rent please understand that you must provide  a copy of your lease showing that you are allowed to have a dog, specifically a large breed.  Also we have to speak to your landlord!

4)If you contact me because you want to surprise your wife(fiancee)kid,parents.. with a dog..please,.think again!  Its not Christmas gift-surprise. No Central asian shepherd puppy will be sold without everyone in the family knowing about this dog!

5)Please,LEARN about the breed! Central asian shepherds are not the breed for everyone!  While family friendly, calm ,good with kids, central asian shepherd is  too much dog for the first time owner.   Please,Ask me questions if you need more information.I provide lots of breed information at our website too.

While some phrases of what I say here may seem too harsh, please understand that it is for your benefit!  If what was said here made you think about, why you want a dog then it was written for  good.  There are just too many unwanted dogs in shelters because of people who buy without thinking or just by impulse..  If you love this ancient rare serious Central asian shepherd, please choose wisely and be sure you are ready for a Alabai puppy.  If after reading this, you feel you are not ready for a Central asian ovtcharka puppy yet, then please, talk to me.  As you move forward in your process of getting a central asian shepherd puppy, keep in mind that owning a dog is a life time commitment, and it can be up to a 12-15 year commitment.  If you cannot dedicate at least 12-15 years to a dog please don't get one.
